In 2016 St Gilgen International School Runners took part in the Wings For Life
World Run in Vienna for the first time with a team of 25 people age ranging from 11 to mid-60s. Our aim was to get the whole school community inspired to feel empowered through physical activity and raising money for an incredible charity. From students, to parents, alumni and staff, we became a global team running 226km, ranking 430th in the world.
In April 2018 the school hosted Anita Gerhardter for an Inspiring Speakers Event when the school community and other visitors learnt more about the ground breaking research being funded by the money raised through the Wings for Life Foundation and Wings for Life World Run. Our goal last year was to better our achievements of 2017 with more members of our school and local community taking part in the Wings for Life run, and to be one of the largest app runs in the world. And we are proud say that we achieved this! With over 150 starters from 42 different nations St Gilgen International School’s app run was the 14th largest in the world an amazing 1448km were run and over 4,000.00 Euros raised for the Wings for Life charity.
On 5th May 2019 we will once again host an app run and as the event no longer clashes with the Salzburg Marathon we hope that our entries will be far greater than last year, making our event once again one of the biggest in the world raising large sums for the charity.
Once course is set on the shores of Wolfgangsee in the Salzkammergut, with amazing mountain and lake views you can run up to marathon distance on the loop run from St Gilgen to St Wolfgang. The course consists of tarmac and paths which wind through the beautiful scenery and nature that we call home. All tracks and paths are all wheel chair friendly.
For those of you who want to run a shorter distance the first 6km of our route is loop that returns to our start at St Gilgen International School where there will be refreshments for competitors and supporters.
