Summer Camps 2027
At our Summer Camps in St. Gilgen, children aged 10–15 from around the world enjoy a unique mix of language learning, culture, and outdoor adventure in one of Austria’s most beautiful regions. All language levels are welcome — from beginner to intermediate.
Grow Minds. Fuel Futures. Live the Adventure. Enjoy a transformative summer at St. Gilgen International School, set in Austria’s stunning Salzkammergut region. Our camps blend immersive language learning (English or German), creative arts or future skills workshops in sustainability, STEM and AI, with outdoor adventure, fostering growth, confidence, and international friendships.
A Camp Where Every Child Matters. With a limit on the camp size, our staff truly get to know each child. This small-group setting ensures higher levels of care, stronger bonds, and a more supportive, family-like atmosphere where every camper gets the attention and support they deserve.
Location & Boarding. StGIS is located in the lakeside village of St. Gilgen, near Salzburg. Campers stay in comfortable boarding houses with en-suite double or triple rooms, grouped by age and gender.
Getting to St Gilgen. Located near Salzburg, allowing for a quick and convenient connection to St. Gilgen. Complimentary collections for campers are available at the start and end of the camps from Salzburg Airport or Train station.
Meals. Campers enjoy buffet meals served in the house, with a few meals enjoyed in the local restaurants. Meals are eaten around a dining table encouraging sharing, conversation, and good table manners. Special dietary needs are accommodated.
Digital Detox. To promote personal wellness, engagement and the building of meaningful connections, phones are collected during the day and returned in the evening (20:30–21:30).

Arrival & Departure
Arrival: 10:00–11:00 on the first day (activities start after lunch).
Departure: 13:00–14:00 on the final day after a full programme of activities.

Morning Learning Options
Campers can choose one of four engaging morning options: Language Learning (German or English), Creative Arts, Sustainability, or AI & STEM (Artificial Intelligence, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Whether developing their language skills, finding solutions for a greener planet, exploring smart technology or learning to code, they gain real-world knowledge and develop creative, future-ready skills in a fun, collaborative environment.
Through hands-on projects, interactive workshops, and creative challenges, campers gain practical insight into their chosen area. For all of our morning options, students attend 3 hours of classes per day for a total of 15 hours of instruction per week.

Language Learning
Daily English or German Classes
We offer English and German lessons from beginner to upper intermediate (levels A1 – B2) in a fun and active classroom environment.
Personalised Language Learning
Learning a new language will open a window to intercultural understanding and help develop critical thinking skills. Students will also have the opportunity to apply their learned language to real world situations. This is a truly fun way to explore language learning and Austria at the same time.
Expert Teaching, Confident Communication
The language lessons will be delivered by highly skilled instructors, with an emphasis on communication and conversational skills.
Beyond the Classroom
On afternoons and weekends, campers can choose either the outdoor adventure option for a chance to try out a range of activities such as climbing, water sports, wilderness exploration and canyoning or the focused activity groups (sailing, golf, horse riding), developing resilience, confidence, and new skills in a supportive environment.

Creative Arts
Our Creative Arts option offers an immersive introduction to the world of visual art . Students explore a range of artistic media and techniques — from painting and drawing to ceramics and sculpture — using the school’s dedicated art studio as their creative workspace.
Create & Experiment with Art
Campers explore a variety of materials, techniques, and artistic processes to foster creative self-expression. Students are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and develop their own ideas and approaches to art.
Learn Artistic Techniques
Through practical, hands-on sessions, students learn the fundamentals of composition, colour, texture, form, and structure. In addition to sessions in the art studio, students also get the chance to explore the spectacular region with landscape painting sessions outdoors.
Professional Instruction For All Skill Levels
Open to beginners and young artists with previous experience, this camp welcomes anyone with a passion for creativity. All language levels are welcome to participate. Students receive personalised guidance from a professional instructor and practicing artist with a PhD in artistic practice and 20 years’ teaching experience.
Build Your Own Portfolio
By the end of camp, students will have created a collection of original artworks across different media, developed a stronger understanding of artistic techniques, and gained the confidence to continue exploring their creativity.

On afternoons and weekends, campers can choose either the outdoor adventure option for a chance to try out a range of activities such as climbing, water sports, wilderness exploration and canyoning or the focused activity groups (sailing, golf, horse riding), developing resilience, confidence, and new skills in a supportive environment.

AI & STEM
Campers step into the future through a hands-on introduction to Artificial Intelligence, robotics, coding, and engineering — discovering how technology shapes the world around us.
Discover the Power of AI
Campers explore Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, understanding how machines learn and how AI is used in everyday life.
Build & Program Robots
Through robotics challenges, participants design, build, and program robots to solve real-world problems in creative, interactive ways.
Create Apps & Games
Using beginner-friendly coding platforms, students design apps, games, and interactive projects, gaining practical tech and problem-solving skills.
Engineer & Innovate
Campers take on STEM challenges, using creativity to design, test, and improve projects in science and engineering — with plenty of hands-on experimentation.
Who Should Join
Open to campers aged 12–15 with at least B2 English level, curious about technology and innovation. No coding experience needed — beginners and advanced coders are welcome.
Combine with Activity Options
Participants can choose the Outdoor Adventure, Golf, or Horse-Riding options in the afternoons, gaining new skills, resilience, and confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

Sustainability
Designed for young changemakers, this camp combines creativity, teamwork, and innovation to explore what a sustainable future can look like. (Prerequisites: English B1 or German B2.)
Create a Sustainable Future
Through project-based learning, campers imagine, invent, and build solutions for a better world during 5 morningsper week of engaging, hands-on activities.
Explore Big Ideas
Projects connect to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with topics such as net-zero cities, urban gardening, sustainable fashion, AI, aviation fuels, and climate justice — encouraging critical thinking and creativity.
Learn from Experts
Led by an experienced environmental educator, students gain a deeper understanding of sustainability through collaboration, creativity, and real-world problem-solving.
Combine with Afternoon Activity Options
Campers join either the outdoor activities group for a chance to try out water spots, climbing, high ropes, etc. or the focused activity groups (sailing, golf, horse riding) in the afternoons, developing resilience, confidence, and new skills in a supportive environment.

Afternoon Activity Options
Embedded in the Salzkammergut region, our surroundings form a natural outdoor playground. In the afternoons, children have the opportunity to explore this incredible area by taking part in a broad range of exciting outdoor activities in our Outdoor Adventure option. If your child is passionate about Sailing, Golf, Horse Riding or simply wants to immerse themselves in trying a new activity then the Sailing/ Golf/ Horse-Riding Camp afternoon options could be perfect for them, whilst simultaneously improving their English or German Language skills in one of the safest, most idyllic places in the world. These amazing opportunities are available to children from 10 to 15 years old from beginners to advanced.

Outdoor Adventures
At our Outdoor Adventure Camp, children aged 10–15 from around the world enjoy a unique mix of language learning, culture, and outdoor adventure in one of Austria’s most beautiful regions.
Afternoon Outdoor Adventures
Campers take part in hiking, climbing, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, swimming, cliff jumping, canyoning and more across the Salzkammergut region. Activities are organized in small groups (max. 8 students) to ensure everyone participates safely and confidently.
Cultural Discovery
Campers dive into Austria’s rich cultural heritage — exploring Mozart’s family home, the Habsburg’s Imperial Villa in Bad Ischl, Klimt’s Attersee, and Ebner-Eschenbach’s summer residence. Possible excursions include Salzburg, the Dachstein ice caves, and historic salt mines, offering hands-on cultural learning.
Choice Days & Flexibility
Afternoons feature rotating activity groups so everyone experiences each sport. Towards the end of camp, students can revisit favourite activities or try advanced levels.
Thursdays are “Choice Days” — options include horse trekking, sailing/windsurfing, archery, or MTB/cycling.

Sailing
Our Focused Sailing Activity Camp on beautiful Mondsee Lake offers campers of all skill levels the chance to learn, practice, and master sailing over two exciting weeks — combining theory, technique, and hands-on experience on the water.
Learn & Practice Sailing
Across six afternoons (3.5 hours each), campers develop sailing knowledge and skills — from wind directions and boat preparation to handling strong and light winds.
Master Core Skills
Participants learn essential knots, how to trim sails, and how to sail independently and safely under different conditions.
Earn Your Sailing License
The camp concludes with the Grundschein Exam — a basic sailing license allowing holders to rent and sail boats up to 14 sqm worldwide.
Advanced sailors can also prepare for the BFA Binnen exam.
Beyond the Water
When not sailing, campers join the main Outdoor Activities & Language Camp, enjoying hiking, climbing, biking, and cultural excursions with new friends.

Golf
Our Focused Golf Activity Camp takes place at the stunning Mondsee Golf Club. Campers of all levels train in a relaxed, scenic environment — combining professional coaching with cutting-edge technology and plenty of fun.
Intensive Golf Training
Campers enjoy 6 training days, each with 3 hours of professional coaching focused on technique, precision, and performance.
Professional Coaching & Technology
Using advanced tools like TrackMan and SAM PuttLab, our expert coach helps every player — beginner or advanced — improve their swing, accuracy, and confidence.
Earn Your Platzreife
Campers may have the chance to earn their Platzreife (golf license), depending on interest and skill level.
Beyond the Course
When not on the course, campers join the main Outdoor Adventure Camp, taking part in exciting outdoor activities and cultural experiences with their peers.

Horseriding
Our Focused Horseriding Activity Camp offers beginners and advanced riders the chance to learn, train, and ride over 10 afternoons of hands-on equestrian experience.
Expert Coaching & Partnership
In collaboration with the EWOT Academy, campers train with award-winning young competition riders, ensuring a professional and inspiring learning environment.
Tailored Riding Sessions
Each session is customized to every rider’s level, combining fun, goal setting, and video analysis.
Beginners start with one-on-one lunge lessons, while experienced riders develop skills in dressage, gymnastics, and jumping.
Horse Care & Preparation
Off the saddle, campers learn how to care for horses, including grooming, equipment preparation, and stable routines, fostering responsibility and confidence.
Earn Riding Badges
Riders can choose to work towards official riding badges, with assessments held during the final days of camp.
Ride with courage, lead with confidence

Summer Camp Vacancies
Work With Us. Are you adventurous, purposeful, and passionate about learning? Join our dynamic summer camp team. Recruitment starts in February each year and is often concluded by April.
We often have 1 – 2 vacancies a year for the following roles: Experienced Boarding/ Residential Staff, Experienced and Qualified Outdoor Activity Leaders, and Experienced Native Speaker English or German Teachers.
